This pair of earrings was created from an old pair of earrings that I decided to transform! I started with a rock symbol, that of the archer, which is found in particular in the caves of the Sahara. I composed it from the silver debris recovered from the cutting scraps of the original pair.

I named them Artemis because this term brings together multiple ideas that I wanted to instill in these new earrings. I wanted to keep the existing closed setting where I had sawn an openwork representing the crescent moon at the back _ as we find it drawn in the Amazigh symbols of the Berber peoples of the Aurès . For the Berbers this symbol signified a change at the crossroads following an upheaval in life, a new choice of life, a new direction taken, a renewal.

This is partly what led me to choose the name Artemis , as this goddess was often associated with the moon, and represented its purest and coldest aspect. She controlled the cycles of the moon which govern not only the tides, but also the life cycles of many living things. The moon is a powerful symbol of renewal and change in many civilizations.

Artemis was also a protective deity and a powerful and free woman ahead of her time. She was passionate about hunting, always depicted with her bow and arrows. It is for this second point of connection with the rock symbol of the archer that Artemis has once again asserted herself.

The two agates have such a powerful color, evoking the sea and its reflections, that it was the last link that brought me back to Artemis ! The goddess watched over wild creatures, flora, and rivers. All around the magnificent waters of the Mediterranean basin, numerous sanctuaries were erected in her honor, sanctuaries overlooking the turquoise waters of the sea...

Characteristics : 950 silver earrings (9.33gr. of silver), oxidized with liver of sulfur ( safe for health and skin ), and polished with a brass brush. The archers were deliberately created with silver debris taken and left as is. 2 Green Agates from Java (Indonesia) ( 30x10x6mm / 30x10mmx5mm ); they have a variable hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale. Total weight of the two earrings with gems: 6.59 gr. for one, 6.06 gr. for the second, for a total weight for the pair of 12.65 grams.

Materials

Most of my jewelry is made of 925 or 950 silver, set with gems, and bear the maker's mark.
The pieces in the Refashion collection, for their part, are not made of precious metal and are not hallmarked: they are composed from pieces chosen from old, second-hand jewelry, the composition of the metal of which is unknown to me, and to which I give a new lease of life, a second life.

Each creation is part of a story, faithful to the spirit of my creative impulses. Please read the MOHS mini guide for gem care.
